This great area of Northern California boasts a great number of outdoor and sporting activities. The climate is perfection for such pursuits, and many people truly enjoy staying fit and active here.

A good place to start looking for Daly City sports is the city’s parks and recreation department. Daly City, California recreation department offers hundreds of classes every year for children, adults and seniors. There’s bound to be something here that piques your interest from tennis to soccer to softball.

Locally there also are a number of good sporting leagues to check out. They are both youth and adult leagues that your whole family will enjoy. Some popular sports here are soccer, golf, tennis, swimming and baseball.

If you are less interested in team sports and more interested in Daly City, CA outdoor activities, Parks in Daly City, and the surrounding region include trails, biking and other spots for enjoyment by families, groups, couples and those looking to commune with nature.

If you are looking for Daly City county parks, you’ll want to look within the San Mateo County parks system. The county boasts 17 parks that offer an array of settings for your enjoyment. There are marine reserve areas near the coast, recreational areas just off the bay, woody areas and also urban parks.  Hiking is one of the most popular recreational activities for local residents and in the San Mateo parks system, you'll find camping facilities, hiking trails, areas for horseback riding and more.  The San Mateo County parks system includes Coyote Park, Sanchez Adobe, Flood Park as well as San Bruno Mountain State Park.  This State Park is at the northern reaches of the Santa Cruz range with Daly City sitting at it's feet. The park provides visitors with day-use facilities, excellent hiking trails, and beautiful views of San Francisco and Central Bay Area. The park is also the home for wide variety of birds, animals, endangered plant life and beautiful butterfly species.

A good spot to be sure to get to know is the Thornton Beach State Park.   Slated to become part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Thornton is a remnant of a once-popular state beach.  Although technically closed, the park  still remains popular with locals and Thorton Beach is a segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the Coastal Trail which follows a 1.2-mile sandy trail up and down the dunes from Thornton Beach up to Fort Funston in San Francisco south.

The landscape at Thornton Beach is largely the result of a massive landslide caused by the infamous 1906 earthquake.  The San Andreas Fault ,  source of that quake, heads from land out to sea beneath Mussel Rock just a quarter mile to the south and the landscape is the beneficiary from years and years tectonic plates moving and shaping this land.  To put it's gorgeous. There's hiking trails along the way that leads to the beach but there are only a few parking spots available. You can bring your dog but it must be leashed to protect the indigenous plants around.
